Another Transition

Technology is taking a back seat. Many who’ve watched me struggle in the tech field will claim that technology is taking its right place in my life - an avocation rather than the sole means of support. It’s been nearly three years since I held a position that had nothing to do with tech. Then again, it’s been nearly that long since I received a regular steady paycheck. Next week, I don the tie and leave Linux, PDAs, 802.11b, php, and MySQL in the hobby closet.

I took a position today with a local law firm, returning to the area in which I have the most training and practical experience. Undoubtedly, there will be some adjusting to do, a mixture of good and bad. An 8-5 sure will be nice. A schedule like that actually leaves me some room to structure both my days and evenings. Penguin Shell should stay on the steady track it’s been on for the past few weeks. And, of course, a regular paycheck - the lack of which is the very thing that’s finally chased me from the tech market.

No personal email at work. I’ll probably leave the cell at home and will have to consider the value of the PDA, as well. Focus, focus, focus. All in all, that’s probably not a bad thing. In any regard, this new position puts me firmly back on the path toward law school and practice. I left that path in pursuit of ‘net riches in ‘99 and have paid dearly for the risk since. No more. If one thing is certain - law is definitely stable.
