Addictive Hooks
September 19th, 2002 | by Tony Steidler-Dennison |Now, I’m just pissed.
Listening to Warren Zevon’s Mohammed’s Radio, I can appreciate how well, throughout his career, he’s been able to couch in your face politics in cheeky catchy hooks. It’s a terribly difficult craft to make someone grin and think at the same time. He’s always done it well. The news of his inoperable lung cancer is very sad.
I’ve managed to steer clear of other old addictions for more than fifteen years. But the reaction to this news was pure addict. I stepped outside and smoked a butt, without so much as a second thought.
Man. What’s it gonna take?

“What’s it gonna take?” Welp, Tony, after 35 years of a pack and a half -/+ a day, I ended up in the hospital with chest pains and was admitted to rule out a heart attack (which it was ruled out). I made a pact with God (probably familiar words to some) “Please, dear God, get me outta this one and I will NEVER smoke again!” Eight months later, I am still not smoking. It’s not proper to back out of a deal with the “Big Guy!” (Not to mention the fear of being struck by an errant bolt of lightning!)
