Great Week in St. Louis
September 27th, 2002 | by Tony Steidler-Dennison |I’ll try not to gloat, but I have to remark on the great week in St. Louis.
A week ago tonight, the Cardinals clinched the National League Central for the third time in four years. At the beginning of the week, they swept the Diamondbacks, pulling into a tie for home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs. In doing so, they beat the unbeatable Curt Schilling on Wednesday. Wednesday, by the way, was the day when rumors started circulating that Scott Rolen had agreed in priciple to a long-term deal. Today, the Cardinals made it official with the signing of an eight-year, $90 million deal. Like McGwire and Edmonds, Rolen came to the best baseball city in America late in the season and decided to stay.
All in all, a pretty good week.

Mention these mega-salaries and I think of Dovovan McNabb of Phillie getting a 12 yr 115,000,000 deal. Insanity!
