Cool Gnome

Gnome is up and running, but only in the root account and only in safe mode. As soon as it opened the first time, I got two error messages, one related to the sound card, the other to xscreensavers. I don’t have speakers on this machine, so I couldn’t care less about the soundcard. As for the screensavers, I’m emerging the xscreensavers package just in case this was preventing gnome from loading.

This is Gnome 2. I haven’t been that thrilled with what I’ve seen in the past. It’s a shame, really, because I’ve always been a die-hard Gnome user. If I can get this up and running in some proper fashion (as a user other than root and without the errors), I’ll have to evaluate it in a thorough way.
