Shower Time

LeonidsIt’s that time of year again. Time for the Earth to pass through the debris trail left by comet Temple-Tuttle and give us, hopefully, one incredible light show. In the Midwest, we’re expecting to see as many as 1500 Leonids per hour in the hours between 3 am and 5 am. Yeah, I’m jazzed. You should expect that from a guy who puts food on his table by building observatory-grade robotic telescopes. Sad thing is, I don’t even own any photographic equipment suitable for taking pictures of the Leonids. Nor do I own a telescope. I’ve got some of the best in the world of both at my disposal in the shop. This event is best viewed with the naked eye, anyway. And no “star party” for me. Just a quiet perch on the hood of my car on a dark country road south of Iowa City.

It’s too bad this site isn’t nearly as live as it would appear.
