Perspective Management
November 24th, 2002 | by Tony Steidler-Dennison |Rested, refreshed, relaxed, and ready to go. That’s the feeling tonight after a weekend away from the computer and tech in general.
I ran off for the weekend to a retreat in central Iowa, and, I think, got a full battery recharge. The only toy I took with me was the cell phone. I’m not sure it really counts as a toy anymore. That meant no email, no PHP, no radio, no TV. I didn’t even see a newspaper until 12:30 this afternoon, on the way home. Even the Zaurus stayed home.
It’s a little sanity check to just step away once in awhile. This will be the longest I go without access to a computer for another year, but I’ll take little breaks here and there. It’s the downside of loving what you do; the risk for burnout is high without some effort toward occasional perspective management.

Oh man, you have to step away from the technology sometimes.
I have been in the Computer Business for 17 years, and several years as before that before I started getting paid.
I took a couple of years off and DJ’d at a nightclub, and private parties. I basically partied for 2 years.
When I came back into the business 486 machines had taken over industry (LOL).
Nowadays, I have to thank my wife for dragging me away from my tech. There are times I need to get away from it, and she seems to sense that and makes me leave it behind.
So, Tony, I am right there with you.
