Necessary Rest
May 25th, 2003 | by Tony Steidler-Dennison |After a 24-hour break from the world, we made it home this afternoon rested and refreshed. The motel *didn’t* have Internet access. Under most circustances, I’d consider that a curse. For the purpose of getting away from it all, though, it was really a blessing.
I did manage to come home with a new 40 GB hard drive for the test machine Cerebrum. The old one died a quiet death last week in the midst of a Red Hat 9.0 install. When we got home, I took a nap to sleep off a day-and-a-half of complete gluttony, then installed the drive - less than a ten-minute process. I followed that up with the Red Hat install. It’s now running smoothly (though temporarily) as the server on my home network. I’ll pass along details of the install and some thoughts on the changes from Red Hat 8.0 in a future article on uptime.
The rest and break was necessary. It made it that much better to get back in the tech saddle at home.
