A Little Tougher Than Expected

Everyone’s provisional frontrunner for the ‘08 Democratic presidential nomination ran into a little trouble yesterday.

USATODAY.com - Activists jeer Clinton over Iraq stance

Anti-war activists in the “Take Back America” crowd booed Clinton for opposing a withdrawal date for U.S. troops, an approach pushed by Kerry and cheered by the crowd.

“Sometimes this is a difficult conversation, in part because this administration has made our world more dangerous than it should be,” she said.

I really can’t claim to be a Hillary supporter for a lot of reasons.

First off, my pick is Wes Clark. It has been for three years, now, and will continue to be. In a national-security focused election, he is, hands-down, the top of the pile.

Second, I don’t like the centrist shift Hillary’s taken in the past year. Pick a position and stick with it, please.

Third, I don’t like at all that she supported the war in Iraq. In that case, she has managed to stick with her original position. It just happened to be the wrong one.

The sense I get is that these are the common concerns among Democrats. Given her polarizing nature, I think the Republicans have to be licking their chops at the prospect of a Hillary candidacy in ‘08. Everything they need to conduct the divisive campaigns they’ve become so proficient at can be found in her background and short Senate record. In short, I don’t think she can be elected.
