The Lake Weekend

August 30th, 2006 | by Tony Steidler-Dennison |

I had a very nice weekend on Lake Michigan, despite some crummy weather for sailing. It was cool - in the 60s for the most part - and overcast for much of time I was there. We did get a bit of sailing in on Saturday afternoon, though there wasn’t much wind. When we did have wind on Sunday afternoon, I managed to get a bit queasy from an empty stomach and 2′ - 4′ swells.

Overall, though, it was great to relax with no particular plans, and to do it in good company. I tend to sleep like a rock in the aft cabin of the Fine Alee. I managed 9 hours both Saturday and Sunday nights, rising long after everyone else. The gentle rocking in the marina and the slap of the waves on the hull really has a relaxing effect.

The food and company were great, and the weekend really provided a needed break from the hectic pace I’ve been moving at for the past several months.
