Crime Wave in Iowa City

November 12th, 2006 | by Tony Steidler-Dennison |

Quite the crime-ridden city I live in.

According to police reports, Matthew Paul Weldon, 20, of Oak Brook, Ill., took a Hostess snack cake into a restroom just before 12:30 a.m. at the HandiMart at 204 N. Dubuque St. and ate it. When asked to pay the 79 cents cost of the cake, he ran out of the store, the report said.

The man was eventually subdued by a police officer and charged with fifth-degree theft.

This is a serious offense and should bring out the entire police force. The potential for another Dan White is present.
This is something that should be handled quickly and the death penalty should be considered as deterrent.
Twinkies are not loaves of bread but English law should prevail.
