93 Strong

The 93rd Roadhouse Podcast is up and feeding - kicking up a strong drain on local power companies. Michael Burks, The Teague Stefan Band, Duke Robillard, Walter Trout, and Boo Boo Davis make for a stand-up show - the Electric Blue edition of the finest blues you’ve never heard.

With listenership hovering around 7500 weekly, I’ve been digging in to make some changes. The first is to the show notes. Each entry in the notes now contains a linked CD cover image. Most are to Amazon, several are to the artists pages on CDBaby. As usual, there are artist information links, iTunes links, label, and eMusic links, as well.

I’ve also started posting iTunes iMix links again. These are a great single-shot opportunity to purchase some of the music in the show. They’ve sold pretty well in the past, but I’d gotten out of the habit of creating and posting them.

I also put my hardware to full good use this week. Rather than using Audacity to compress and tweak the voiceovers, I spent some time earlier in the week twisting the settings on my Behringer MDX1600 AUTOCOM PRO-XL and Behringer Ultragain Pro MIC2200. As much as I love software, there’s really no sound like good old-fashioned hardware processing. The MDX1600 is a compressor/limiter/expander/gate unit. The Ultragain Pro is a tube mic preamp - both a steal at the price. The voiceovers still aren’t perfect, but they’re a lot closer than I’ve been. Aside from the hard room (with a bit of slap in the background), it feels like I’m getting close to the sound I’d like to have.

Now, I have to start thinking seriously about what to do for the 100th show …
