Time Machine Saved Me Hours

So, I had to install Adobe Connect to take part as a presenter in a online meeting. Seemed to work fine until I logged out and tried to come back in. To shorten the sad story I ended up with a slow MacMini, weird behavior. Everything began to get slow and act strange.

I ran Disk Utility to repair permissions, nothing found, and nothing was repaired.

I made a big mistake, I decided to run fsck -fy and hours later it was still running and finding errors. I exited safe mode and it was not pretty. iTunes would not recognize my iPhone and every hyperlink in every browser had a dark red background.

So now what?

I had backed up everything, so I resorted to extreme measures. I erased the drive, re-installed Leopard, and then ran Time Machine to restore the entire system to the day before all the problems began.

Four hours and thirty minutes later my MacMini was back to normal and I was back at work. All programs, keychains, documents, and settings. Color me impressed.

It was a great day to be in the orchard.
