Apple’s famous iMac turns 10 years old today, marking an important milestone. The computer — which first began shipping on August 15th, 1998 — helped usher in the modern Mac era, distancing Apple from an era of Performas and Quadras. It was also the first major new product from the company following the return of co-founder Steve Jobs, and brok…

One major GPS maker has a working turn-by-turn navigation system already developed for the iPhone. Thanks to Apple’s silence on the SDK and whether it forbids turn-by-turn GPS apps, however, it can’t be released to the public. Other GPS companies are playing the waiting game too.

Remember that MobileMe phishing e-mail that made the rounds earlier this week? A couple hundred customers took the bait and fell for the scam, investigators have found, and this is probably only the beginning for Apple’s customers.

If you’re looking for ways to get more control over your Mail inbox, consider taking advantage of a built-in feature in Mail’s rules to help you identify those messages that need your immediate attention. As you’re probably aware, you can use Mail’s Rules to set up rules that filter your e-mail, based on conditions you specify. By using one of the Apple-provided conditions, you can set up a rule to help you (visually and/or audibly) identify e-mails from people you are actively corresponding with.

“VMware has been focusing on standardization efforts much more seriously of late. They realize that the actual hypervisor functionality is being quickly commoditized, or near-commoditized, and like every other virtualization vendor, they’re eyeing virtualization management as the source of green-field revenue,” said Michael Coté, an analyst with Redmonk. “IT management is by its nature a heterogenous undertaking, and even for market leaders like VMware, that means promoting standards and openness, at least at the lower levels of the stack.”

You may recall late last year that an investigation in Ohio turned up that all e-voting machines used in the state during the 2004 election had malfunctioning problems. Earlier this year, officials declared machines from that election a crime scene to be investigated, and now Ohio has filed a lawsuit against Premiere Election Solutions, the company better known as Diebold (it changed its name after tons of bad press).
